Who uses QuoteStocker?

QuoteStocker is suited for every novice or experienced investor who wants to use historical or actual stock quotes in his or her technical analysis software. QuoteStocker is easy to use but versatile in its features.

Is there a trial version of QuoteStocker?

Yes. With QuoteStocker Free you can try QuoteStocker for two weeks. The only limitation is that you can only download 30 stocks, funds, futures or indices as maximum. By trying QuoteStocker Free first you will know exactly what you get when you buy a license for QuoteStocker. With a license you can use QuoteStocker without limitations.

What does it cost to download stock quotes?

Downloading of stock quotes is free. You just pay once for a license for QuoteStocker.

Which technical analysis software is supported by QuoteStocker?

QuoteStocker supports all technical analysis software packages that read or import files in the ASCII-format. Currently, there are thirteen preset TA-packages selectable, but you can also easily create your own format.

What does ASCII mean?

ASCII is short for American Standard Code for Information Interchange and is a standard to represent text in e.g. computers. QuoteStocker uses this format to save its downloaded files. You can open and read the downloaded files with about any text editor including Notepad from Windows.

From which stock exchanges can QuoteStocker download stock quotes?

QuoteStocker can download quotes from all stock exchanges that are in the database of Yahoo!. Those are dozens of stock exchanges. From AEX to Dow Jones. And from Toronto to Bombay. Take a look at the list of major world indices at Yahoo.

Do I have to wait until the stock exchange is closed before I can start with downloading?

No, you can download stock quotes 24 hours a day. The historical stock quotes are available any moment. When you download the latest quotes (‘Today’) while the stock exchange is still open, then you’ll get the latest available intra-day quotes. By using separate download lists per stock exchange you’ll have a good overview of what you download.

How can I add a new stock to a download list?

Very easy. Just look at the website of Yahoo! for the stock that you want to add and write down the associated code. For example, the code for the Dow Jones Industrial Average is ^DJI. In the main window of QuoteStocker, click on the button ‘Edit the download list‘ and select the list that you want to edit. Type the code in the ‘code text field’ and type an applicable name in the ‘name field’. Click on ‘Add’ and you can start downloading quotes.

I have a technical analysis software package that is not in the drop down list of QuoteStocker. Can I still use QuoteStocker?

Yes. It is very easy to make your own setting that suits your technical analysis software package. In the settings window you directly see the format in which the files are saved.

I want to download historical stock quotes over a period of eight years but I only get the data over two years. Why is that?

When you are certain that the listing is at least eight years, then there is a possibility that Yahoo! changed the code for this stock two years ago. In that case you must find the old code and download the historical quotes using this code and add this data to your existing data. Another possibility is that Yahoo! started saving quote data of this stock just recently.

I want to download historical stock quotes but get a message that nothing is downloaded. Why is that?

Historical stock quotes are not always available. Try to download data over a bigger time period. Often this succeeds.

I don’t have a software package for technical analysis yet. Can you recommend one?

There are many technical software packages. There is freeware like StockVisor up to packages costing hundreds of euros. Often, the more expensive software packages have a paid subscription for quote data. With QuoteStocker you don’t have repeating costs. You just pay once for a lifetime license and you are free to download what you want and when you want.

Sometimes I get an error that the file mscomct2.ocx is not correctly registered. What can be wrong?

Occasionally users get this error. It means that the Windows file mscomct2.ocx is not present on your pc. As of version 1.0.9 it is included in the QuoteStocker installation file. It will only be installed when it is not present on your pc.

Alternatively, you can download it from the Microsoft website or download it here and follow the instructions in the included file.
